T o my mind a woman is at least a little free if she is financially independant,is in full control of her
finances and take decisions on all matters pertaining to her how so ever small or big it may be.However there is a hitch for all this depends on her father's,brothers ,husband /,s ons grandsons, employees,bosses,and even the common man on the street having t o relinquish age weapons of control viz emotional,financial,social, and psychological over women.Will they ever?That is the question.
Most modern women become weary after waging these tough wars and give up. Those women who don't give up, a miniscule number have to spend rest of their life battling to keep their well fought freedom intact.The former has to gather on a particular day meekly and sadly to voice their demands amongst themselves knowing fully well that their men folk would flick them off casually like they would the creamy layer off their coffee,the latter has no need for womens day as she has the entire year at her disposal!A lot of battles await her but she has freed herself from the golden cage and is flying high and surging ahead.

Womens day .
Is there a Mens day? No! because it is a mans world! They don't have to observe or celeb rate a particular day in a year as they are celebrating their right to exist freely and happily throughout the year.
We poor second class citizens [women] have been very graciously given a day to remember that we too exist , leave alone the fact that we too have an appetite for good life and yearn to move around the world freely or at least walk without fear on our roads late at nights.Can any of us the educated,professional modern woman who can match most men in various fields like medicine,law,I.T etc dare to go to a night show on our own and return home alone?Even going out alone in midday in certain cities is a challenge to many a ornamented or well made up and dressed woman where men[i am not genaralising] are ready to pounce on us for our gold chains,bangles etc or ogle at us in such a way so as make us feel cheap ,self conscious and as tho' we are some peculiar creatures!
If this is the picture outside our house ,inside man is the one and only master of the house.He invariably always takes charge of the t.v remote thus establishing his dominance over the house hold and keeps his finances in total secrecy but openly takes control of his hardworking wife's finances who has been brain washed into thinking that even if she earns money by her own efforts[may even be a banker] her dear husband knows all especially finances and every decision best left to that lords discretion [whims and fancies]

Laughter ......contd
A woman's' laughter can wound a man terribly .When Draupadi laughed at Duryodhan when he slipped and fell when he visited her palace built by Myan [the celestial architect] he felt so humiliated that he later humiliated her in public and that laughter became one of the main causes for the Mahabharat war to take place. Then Selvi said I too laugh at people whofall down and also at myself when I fall down, so will this affect me Ma'm? I said the words I spoke was intended to console and not sit on judgement on any one's words or deeds.
We all laughed [may sound cruel but these blind youngsters especially the partially blind persons laugh at themselves] when she said she stepped on a dog whilst fetching water from a common pump in the morning.I said lucky you the dog didn't bite you! She said its our hostel dog & it knows I am blind!Each of us shared our falling down experiences and we dispersed after a while.
After two days I got a call,it was Selvi.She said M'am whilst going to exam centre I fell down from the bus &it hurt me so badly I cried and did'nt even want to attend the exams, but somehow I did and hereafter I will not laugh at any one who falls down. I did'nt know what to say.

laughter medicine or poison ?
On a day I normally don't visit the Blind associ ation I got a frantic call from the very same partially blind woman to read to her as she had a exam the next day.
. I pushed aside my various other plans and activities for the day and set off to the asso' anxious to help her.
It turned out that the exam was nothing to do with the main subject viz B'ed for which she has taken a loan of 60000 rs to join the course [the govt has a lot of schemes to help the handicaped people like scholarships ,loans etc] but an exam on G handhi for which she had paid only 20 rs ofcourse out of her pocket.She kept fretting that her 20 rs would go waste if she flunked the exam .Penny wise pound foolish.I thought let it be and calmed myself with the thought that here I am reading about G handhi on his 61st death anniversary truly a great privelege.
The lesson was about Ghandhi being thrown out of a train in S. Africa.A lot of educated but unemployed youths [blind]joined us and at end of lesson our talks turned towards falling down.One totally bl youth recounted an incident that took place 7 years back when he tripped and fell in a moving bus and how the laughs of some girls present in that bus and who were aware of his handicap hurt him and still hurts him.To console the young man I told him that I have been enough years to know that life has a funny way of paying back and that those girls will be laughed at one day and get hurt as you were and are.It is just a matter of time, so leave it at that and forget it. to be contd

Source of entertainment
The other day I read an news item which stated that a 2000 year old gold ring was found in Jerusalem.
The person who wore it is no more but that element or metal is still here. Why couldn't god create people with such long life?When all these metals and elements were created why didn't he create all these various forms with eternal life? Why can't I be 2000 or 10000 yrs old? If it is survival of fittest ,what for? If creator has infinite powers which I don't doubt, why not create perfect human beings at the very beginning and let them live fore ever.
This cycle of birth and death and development is probably to provide entertainment to the creator who is lonely and bored out there in the vast expanse of space. We with our joys and sorrows are his perinniel source of enjoyment.
